For an African hunting Lion Safari, the broadside shot into the “engine room”/” between the shoulders” (heart and lungs) is the gold standard for a clean kill.
Preferred caliber for Lion
Lion hunting requires immense stopping power if it decides to charge. The legal minimum is a .375 H&H; our African professional hunters prefer a client use a .375 H&H for Lion hunting.
The .416 Rigby is also a very good choice for Lion hunting. A quick-expanding caliber and bullet combination is essential when hunting lion. Because a lion’s skin is not particularly thick, there is no need for a slow-moving caliber that relies on very heavy bullets to achieve effective results.
