Nyala (Tragelaphus angasii)
Also known as the Angas’ Antelope, the Nyala is one of the most sought-after species in African plains game hunting. Its name is of Zulu origin and is deeply rooted in the Zululand region of South Africa, where the species is most found.

Distribution
While synonymous with South Africa, it is also found in Zimbabwe, southern Mozambique, and the Zambia border regions.
Description
The Nyala bull is famous for its shaggy, slate-grey coat, white-striped flanks, and bright red-orange legs. In contrast, the females are a rich reddish color and lack horns, giving the species clearly distinct male and female characteristics.

Taxonomy
Named in 1910 by Richard Lydekker to honor Major Ivor Buxton, this species is a distinct cousin to the southern Nyala.
Key differences
The Mountain Nyala is much larger than its southern relative and lacks the shaggy coat and red legs, featuring instead poorly defined white stripes and spots, often compared to the Harnessed Bushbuck, with a distinctive white band across the throat and chest.

Recommended calibers: .300 Winchester Magnum, .30-06 Springfield, and .270 Winchester.
